I figure RDR is finally old enough to do an ‘”issues” article so here goes nothing. If you’re looking for more movie content we will have a review for Alien: Covenant and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword up shortly. But for just this once, this article is just me.

Frustration and jealousy are curious things as they often work in tandem but can also be causative of each other. RDR was started because I wanted to focus my drive for the one real passion I have in the only way that seemed feasible to me. After the site began to take off I became more immersed in blogging and met some wonderful people who had been doing the same thing for some time. It became instantly clear that I was out of my league but that was okay because I was doing something that was becoming increasingly enjoyable. The community was being built and more film blog vets were helping me create what I wanted. (more…)

After a well received first season adaptation of the young adult novel 13 Reasons Why, Netflix announced that the story will continue with a season 2. As foreshadowed by the somewhat offputting sequel bait in the series final few episodes last season, this new season will feature an entirely original storyline apart from the tale concerning the suicide of high school student Hannah and one boy’s work to discover why. More story and cast details are being kept under wraps for now.

Fighting evil never looked so good.

Nobody panic…. but it’s here.

Image result for mass effect

The Mass Effect saga is one of the best game series in history. Expertly mixing storytelling as well as captivating gameplay, the games are pioneers in the industry. However, that’s not what makes them truly stand out in my opinion. Though the wide breadth of story is admirable, the sheer amount of freedom you are given is more so. Not just in physical exploration, but in social and personal form as well, Mass Effect gives you the opportunity to explore yourself in a way that real life may not necessarily allow or at least approve of. And that’s what makes it great. (more…)

Image result for the great wall film

There is a lot to be said for the case that Hollywood is, at least partially, unfair to the depiction of certain races. Whether it be horrendously stereotyping them or not giving particular races roles at all, history is rife with evidence that the film industry has been slow on being more diverse. When the trailer for The Great Wall was released I was personally unenthused. The CGI looked crummy and Matt Damon’s inclusion had no particular significance for me. I forgot about it and moved on with my day. But suddenly the internet was a flame, as it is prone to do, as others saw this trailer and were enraged that Matt Damon’s white male character was a seeming savior for an overwhelmed, Chinese majority army.  Though on the surface I can see where this interpretation would come from, I can’t agree that his character is by any means an insult to Asian races or acting as a white savior to any characters in this film. Why you ask? Because unlike most people I forced myself to watch the damn film. (more…)
